EMPLOYEES AT SOLIHULL DONATE £17,000 TO HELP LOCAL CHARITIES COPE WITH CORONAVIRUS

6 April 2020

  • Jaguar Land Rover employees have raised more than £17,000 for local charities
  • Demand on NSPCC’s Birmingham Childline has risen with more young people indoors
  • Donation will provide technology to allow volunteers to provide help and advice remotely
  • Renewal CC foodbank and Age UK are working hard to deliver food parcels to 10,000 vulnerable elderly and isolated Solihull residents.

Monday 6 April 2020, Whitley, UK – Employees at Jaguar Land Rover Solihull have committed more than £17,000 in charitable donations to support some of the West Midlands’ most vulnerable people during the coronavirus crisis.

As the region copes with the impact of the virus, an employee‑led charity committee at the Midlands‑based manufacturer has pledged help for those who are likely to be hardest hit – by making the group’s largest ever donation to local good causes.

Two donations of £5,000 each will go to Renewal CC, a Solihull charity which offers a referral‑based food bank service, and Age UK Solihull, which will be delivering food parcels to around 10,000 of Solihull’s most isolated and vulnerable elderly residents.

Meanwhile, employees at the Solihull‑based manufacturing facility have also donated more than £7,000 to Childline Birmingham, a service which provides free counselling to young people in the Midlands. The funds will go towards additional technology that will enable the service, run by the NSPCC, to continue to operate during the crisis.

More children and young people are indoors and so we have experienced an increased need for our service. We are incredibly grateful for Jaguar Land Rover staff’s generosity, as donations such as these will prove fundamental in providing key resources so we can continue to be there for those who need us desperately right now.

Ziv Israeli
Service Head of Childline Birmingham

This is a difficult time for everybody, but we are thankful there are initiatives to support some of the most vulnerable people in our community. The money, which has been raised by our employees, will make a big difference to those charities doing such vital work to help people through this uncertain time.

Jaguar Land Rover’s response to Covid‑19

Jaguar Land Rover is working closely with the UK government to provide our support and expertise in these unprecedented times. We have formally registered in response to the government’s call to action for business support in combating the impact of Covid‑19 in the UK.

We have offered our research and engineering expertise, as well as digital engineering and design, printing of 3D models and prototypes, machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI) and data science support.

Jaguar Land Rover has started production of NHS‑approved protective visors. The reusable face visors will be manufactured in the company’s rapid prototype 3‑D printing facility, one of the most advanced in Europe. Initially, we will 3‑D print 1,300 visors each week for keyworkers, with aspiration to develop operation for mass production. Our intention is to make the open source CAD design files available to Additive Manufacturers and suppliers, so many more protective visors can be printed over the coming weeks.

We are also focusing our efforts supporting our local communities by providing Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles to organisations such as the British Red Cross and emergency services.

Land Rover is a member of the Disaster Relief Alliance, helping the Red Cross prepare communities for emergencies, provide relief during crisis and support in the aftermath with £200,000 already released to support Covid‑19. Jaguar and Land Rover have deployed more than 160 vehicles globally to support emergency response organisations: 57 vehicles including 27 New Defenders from the press fleet have been put into service with the British Red Cross to deliver medicine and food to vulnerable people including the elderly in the UK. A further 65 vehicles are supporting the Red Cross Societies in Australia, Spain, South Africa and France.
