London, UK: Jaguar Land Rover, the UK's leading manufacturer of premium vehicles, last week received a prestigious Award to Industry, from The Worshipful Company of Coachmakers and Coach Harness Makers of London. The award, presented at the annual Award to Industry Livery Dinner, recognised Jaguar Land Rover's excellence in design, technical development, innovation and commercial significance.
The Award to Industry was established in 1972 to recognise outstanding contributions to technological advancement in transport, executed with elegance and commercial significance by an individual or organisation.
Ian Smith, Master Coachmaker, said: "Both Jaguar and Land Rover have previously won this award, Jaguar in 1998 and Land Rover in 2003 and I feel that now is the right time for us to recognise the business.
"Marvellous things have happened at Jaguar Land Rover in recent years. It has undergone an incredible turnaround, with exciting new products, significant investment and a global workforce that continues to grow. The vision and determination during difficult times has been great to see and is a real example to us all.
"Dr Ralf Speth and his team's achievements are to be recognised, not just in the UK, but globally. Jaguar Land Rover is a great success story and worthy winners of the 2014 Award to Industry."
This award highlights Jaguar Land Rover's passion for craftsmanship, design and engineering. It honours the business for its support of military heroes and training of young people to be the innovative engineers and designers of tomorrow.
Jaguar Land Rover's Design Director, Ian Callum, said: "As a Liveryman, I am very passionate about the work of the Coachmakers and I am delighted that we have won this award. So much of what the Coachmakers stand for is also at the core of Jaguar Land Rover ‑ design being particularly close to my heart.
"Design is a huge Jaguar Land Rover brand asset ‑ elegant yet modern, distinctive yet appropriate, timeless not merely fashionable. It is better design, not more design."
Great British design is a key reason for the global success of all of Jaguar Land Rover's premium vehicles, which now includes additions such as the Jaguar XE, the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Jaguar F‑PACE.
Jaguar Land Rover is the largest investor in research and development in the UK manufacturing sector and has invested over £10 billion in the past five years.
