(MAHWAH, NJ) – October 23, 2018 – Jaguar Land Rover today announced both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto functionality have been added as standard equipment on the 2019 Jaguar I‑PACE, as well as an option on select 2019 model year vehicles equipped with the InControl Touch Pro and Touch Pro Duo™ infotainment systems.

Drivers are now able to interact with key mobile apps, such as Spotify, WhatsApp and, with the release of iOS12, Waze through the vehicle’s touchscreen, in a manner similar to a smartphone. Where equipped, certain functionality can even be controlled via the vehicle’s Voice Control, providing additional convenience. Owners will simply connect their smartphone to the vehicle via a compatible USB cable and select Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto on the vehicle’s touchscreen2,5.

Smartphone pack, which includes Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto is standard on all Jaguar I‑PACE models from launch. Additionally, from the 2019 model year forward, all vehicles equipped with the Jaguar and Land Rover InControl Touch Pro or Touch Pro Duo infotainment systems with navigation, InControl® Apps, and Wi‑Fi connectivity will be available with the optional Smartphone Pack4. Depending on model, the Smartphone Pack will be either a port‑ or factory‑installed option for around $300, depending on model and trim level1.

In addition to the new Smartphone Pack, Jaguar and Land Rover have made a number of other key enhancements to the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system for the 2019 model year, including:

  • Voice command for Navigation functionality introduced for select models;
  • Major graphical refresh on the “Home,” “Extra Features” and “Customizable Homepage” screens;
  • Minor user experience changes to the button and icon placement on “Media Screen”; and
  • Additional shortcut buttons on the home screen for key functions within Navigation, Media and Phone.

InControl Touch Pro

Designed and developed in‑house around a quad‑core processor, a high‑speed 60GB solid‑state drive (SSD) and an ultra‑fast Ethernet network, InControl Touch Pro represented a step change for Jaguar Land Rover infotainment technology when it was first introduced with the 2016 model year.

The Jaguar InControl® Touch Pro infotainment system features a 10‑inch touchscreen. Like a tablet, there are no buttons; all controls are integrated into the bottom section of the touchscreen, making interaction smooth and seamless. The home screen can be customized and widgets can be added – users can even add additional home screens if they wish.

InControl Touch Pro has been designed to make every journey easier and more enjoyable. Navigation data stored on the high‑speed SSD can be accessed in a fraction of the time required with conventional hard drive technology. Users can zoom in and out of maps using ‘pinch’ and ‘pan’ gestures.

Even when there’s no GPS signal the system can still help drivers to stay on track with dead‑reckoning functionality which analyzes data from the vehicle’s sensors to accurately predict the vehicle’s location.

Use of a data connection to access location‑based features adds another dimension to the system’s capability3. Search for a destination and the system will check if there’s sufficient fuel or battery range to complete the journey. If not, this will be flagged and available filling/charging stations on the route that are within range are shown on the map; tapping on one of them is all it takes to add it as a waypoint.

When active, the data connection also allows for a number of other features to be activated. With InControl Touch Pro it’s possible to share destination, current location and estimated time of arrival (ETA) with others via email or text message when using the vehicle’s on‑board navigation system2. When caught in traffic the system can automatically follow‑up with an ETA update.

Commute Mode learns an owner’s daily drive so that it can offer alternative routes to avoid congestion using historical and real‑time traffic information. Approach Mode adds a 360‑deg interactive view of your destination alongside the map display when you’re approximately 656‑ft (200m away) – it can even show you where the nearest available parking lots are and then direct you to them.

InControl Touch Pro Duo

First debuting on the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar, and now available as standard equipment on the 2019 Jaguar I‑PACE, Land Rover Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, Touch Pro Duo takes the best hardware and UX characteristics of InControl Touch Pro and builds on them to make interaction less distracting and even more user friendly.

Dual upper and lower touchscreens form the centerpiece of the new minimalist HMI that controls infotainment, HVAC and a number of other system settings. Fast and intuitive, Touch Pro Duo combines finely engineered physical controls and a beautiful digital interface to deliver a truly connected driving experience.

The system looks simultaneously futuristic and elegant thanks to the interlinked upper and lower touchscreens that provide clear graphics and ease of operation with familiar tap, swipe and pinch‑to‑zoom control gestures on the upper screen. The customizable home screen also allows customers to create shortcuts to preferred features.

The Touch Pro Duo system allows drivers to keep mapping information displayed on the upper touchscreen, while providing easy access to further features such as HVAC control, seat settings, music information and drive mode selection on the secondary lower display. By dividing information and controls logically between the two screens, Touch Pro Duo achieves an even more intuitive user experience.

Positioned on either side of the lower screen are two rotary dials, which can be used to control the cabin temperature, fan speed, seat climate and massage functions. These can also be used to manage media and phone functionality via specialist widgets when the upper screen is in use.

Behind the steering wheel, a high‑resolution Interactive Driver Display includes customizable dual dial, single dial and extended mode views. Other frequently used features – including phone, navigation and media settings – can also be managed using this cluster.
