(MAHWAH, NJ) – April 30, 2018 – Today, Land Rover North America celebrated World Land Rover Day at its new 12 acre headquarter campus in Mahwah, New Jersey. The celebration featured a gathering of employees, members of the winning 1995 American Camel Trophy U.S. team and a number of new and classic Land Rover vehicles on display, including an original 1987 North American Spec (NAS) Range Rover Classic from the first year Range Rover was sold in America.

The celebration also featured an award ceremony for the new Land Rover Discovery, presented by Four Wheeler magazine. The fifth generation Discovery was recently honored by the magazine as ‘Four Wheeler of the Year’ for 2018, continuing a tradition of off‑road leadership for which the Land Rover brand was built on 70 years ago. This is the sixth Land Rover vehicle to have won the prestigious award as the Range Rover won in 1989, the Defender 90 in 1994, the Discovery 1 in 1995, the Range Rover Sport in 2014 and the Range Rover Sport SVR in 2016.

Land Rover will globally mark its 70th anniversary with a special event at Jaguar Land Rover Classic Facility in the UK later today (April 30). The program will be broadcast on the brand’s social channels and will pay tribute to seven decades of adventure, humanitarian aid and hard work across classes and cultures around the world.

The broadcast, which will be held at 3:00 PM EST, will take viewers through the journey of how Land Rover began as a utility model at the end of the Second World War and grew to become the world’s favorite 4x4, with more than 7 million sold globally.

A vehicle line‑up including HUE: the first prototype Land Rover, the original two‑door Range Rover and the seven‑seater Discovery, as well as expedition‑proven models from across the decades, will share the stage at the Land Rover Classic Works Facility in Coventry. The current range, including the sector‑defining Range Rover Evoque and Velar SUVs, will also be on screen as Land Rover celebrates its lifelong status as a favorite among celebrities, politicians and royalty.

Prof Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover CEO, said, “Land Rover was born with the launch of a single vehicle. Today our family of SUVs is a testament to the pioneering spirit of innovation that has characterised Land Rover for seven decades. Our family of Defender, Discovery and Range Rover models provides unrivalled capability, versatility and luxury, giving us the perfect foundation for another 70 years of success.”

Speth continues, “Land Rover is so much more than just the most capable all‑terrain vehicles. It connects people through a passion for adventure and for making more of our world. From our employees to customers and enthusiasts, this is a family that makes Land Rover special.”
