Jaguar Land Rover has today been recognised by Business in the Community for its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, achieving the Platinum rating in the Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index.
The prestigious Platinum accolade reflects JLR's continuing commitment to CR throughout its business operations and saw a 10% improvement on 2011. This is the fourth consecutive year JLR has achieved an improved rating since first participating in the CR Index in 2009, which resulted in a Bronze rating.
Commenting on the award Mike Wright, Executive Director, JLR said: "Corporate Social Responsibility is a core value for JLR and covers every aspect of our business from the environmental impact of our products and operations to engagement with our employees, community groups and nationwide education programmes. It is therefore very pleasing to see the efforts of our entire team recognised by Business in the Community."
The CR Index is the UK's leading voluntary benchmark of Corporate Responsibility. It is a framework to help companies to integrate and improve CR throughout their operations by providing a systematic approach to managing, measuring and reporting on business impact in society and on the environment.
The Platinum complements JLR's existing community and environmental achievements. JLR became the first car manufacturer in the UK to achieve the highly regarded CommunityMark, the UK's national standard that publicly recognises excellence in community investment. Awarded by Business in the Community, the CommunityMark is widely recognised as the national standard of excellence for community investment and was given in recognition of JLR's considerable investment in community programmes, including its Education Business Partnership Centres and national educational initiatives. JLR's Environmental Innovation programme was awarded a Big Tick for Environmental Leadership in 2011. The award recognised JLR's commitment to sustainable products and manufacturing processes, CO2 reductions and improved fuel efficiency through its comprehensive employee engagement initiative.
Stephen Howard, Chief Executive, Business in the Community said:"I congratulate JLR on achieving Platinum in the 2012 BITC Corporate Responsibility Index. The CR Index has helped to highlight clearly those best practice examples that bring to life in a powerful way what integrated responsible practice really looks like. As we celebrate 10 years of our CR Index it has given me great pleasure to witness each company's responsible business journey and the transformations they are making both within their businesses and the impact they have in our communities."
